Pamela Roberson builds mixed-media paintings through accumulation, interruption, and revision. Working with acrylic paint, collage, drawing materials, and layers of clear medium, she allows each painting to develop without a predetermined destination. Shapes are introduced, obscured, excavated, and sometimes buried completely as the work evolves.

Roberson’s process relies on responding to what is already present. A color may become a field, a small gesture may expand into a dominant form, or an earlier passage may remain visible beneath subsequent layers. She repeatedly builds, sands, covers, and reworks the surface, allowing evidence of previous decisions to remain within the painting. The resulting works hold a physical history; edges and fragments exist at different depths even as the final surface is worked into a smooth plane.
Color plays an increasingly structural role in Roberson’s work. Saturated color can interrupt, conceal, divide, or quiet a painting rather than simply serve as emphasis. Organic forms coexist with abrupt edges and awkward interruptions, creating compositions that resist easy resolution while remaining deeply invested in beauty.

Roberson is based in Ocklawaha, Florida, and studied Fine Art at the University of Houston.
